Already the winner of Race 1, Rayan Caretti added a second victory to his tally in the French F4 Championship by winning a very lively Race 3. At Magny-Cours, Alex Munoz slightly increased his lead over Jules Roussel in the overall standings.
The FFSA Academy drivers had the honour of kicking off Sunday’s prestigious GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Sprint Cup meeting at Magny-Cours. With the best of the second laps in Qualifying, Jules Roussel took pole position with Rafaël Perard alongside him, while Rayan Caretti and Louis Iglesias shared the second row. As on the previous day, the final race of the meeting saw several twists and turns, particularly in the battle for victory.
Race 3: Rafaël Perard the early leader, Rayan Caretti wins
When the lights went out, Rafaël Perard was the quickest off the mark and completed the first lap in the lead ahead of Roméo Leurs, who had made a very good start, Louis Iglesias, Rayan Caretti and Alex Munoz. An intense duel ensued between the latter, with positions fluctuating over the course of the laps. The first regrouping behind the safety car took place before the third lap, but Perard managed the restart perfectly a few minutes later. Having just built up a lead of more than a second, Perard lost his 1st place to Caretti due to mechanical problems. Iglesias moved up to 2nd place, but found himself under pressure from Roussel, who was determined to take points away from Munoz in the Championship.
While Caretti managed to pull away to claim his second victory, Roussel found an opening against Iglesias, deciding the podium for the day. Leurs disappeared from the race after a collision with Malo Bolliet, who was penalised while in 7th position. Munoz secured 4th place ahead of Arthur Dorison, who won his duel with Guillaume Bouzar. Starting in 13th place, Andy Consani had a great race, attacking his way back to 7th place ahead of Germany’s Montego Maassen and Monaco’s Mattéo Giaccardi. The point for 10th place in Race 3 went to Japan’s Rintaro Sato, who had started from 28th on the grid.
Lisa Billard drove at an excellent pace in the middle of the pack, securing another victory in the women’s category ahead of the Netherlands’ Annabelle Brian and Jade Jacquet, who had to fight off Angelina Proenca right to the end.
In the French Championship standings ahead of the final two rounds, Munoz increased his lead over Jules Roussel by 10 points to 22. Thanks to his victory in Race 2, Arthur Dorison remains in 3rd place, but Rayan Caretti has now moved up from 6th to 4th place ahead of Louis Iglesias, just 13 points behind Dorison.
